Monitor Displays

Posted - December 2, 2008
As part of the upgrade, schools elected to purchase LG or Samsung video displays.  Below is information regarding those video displays.

LG
Currently no information.

SAMSUNG
In working with ESU 11, we found out that the Lifesize codec would not work properly when using the PC input on that monitor.  Craig Peterson discovered that Samsung has released a firmware upgrade for the Samsung monitor that will resolve that problem.  Follow these directions to download the firmware upgrade and how you then upgrade your monitor:  (Note you must use a PC and not a macintosh to work with the .exe files.)

  1. Go to http://www.samsung.com/us/support/download/supportDownMain.do
  2. Click on "Search by Model Number" which is located in the purple banner in the middle of the top of the page.
  3. Put in their own model number LN52A550
  4. Click on the Firmware (not the manual tab)  tab which is located just above the user guides lists.  You should see three files.
  5. Download and print off the PDF file which will be the instructions of how to update the monitor.
  6. Next download Firmware1 ver.1005.1 to your PC.
  7. Copy the first upgrade Firmware1 (ver. 1005.1) to a USB stick drive then run the Unzip program by double clicking on the file.  This will create the correct directory structure on the USB drive.
  8. Follow the directions in the downloaded PDF to upgrade Firmware1 on your monitor.
  9. Very important - Do not download the second file until after they have updated the Monitor with the first update and have removed the directory from the USB drive.
  10. Follow the same procedure in #7 to download Firmware2 to your PC and then to your computer.
As I do not have a Samsung monitor and Craig Peterson has been able to do this on his monitor, please call Craig if you are having problems with the upgrade.
