LB 1208 provides for 85% funding rule communications services
    • Begins with the 2006 - 07 school year
    • All schools except those who do not qualify for state aid are eligible (click here to view)

  • A)  instructors needed
  • B)  training provided for teachers
  • C)  support materials for teachers (myelearning)
  • D)  additional pay options for teaching distance education classes
  • E)  dual credit classes

  • G) other funding
RUS Grant:  TVDEC and STEPS schools were identified as schools supported in this grant.  The reasons for including these schools was:
  • beginning in 2007-08 these schools will receive unified distance education services through ESU 10
  • schools will be looking to join the statewide network which will provide additional connection opportunities
  • additional video conferencing technology will provide expanded resources for sending and receiving classes within the consortiums and beyond
  • UNK will partner with the project as they will share technical resources to provide additional video conferencing connectivity.
Funding from the grant is for equipment in support of video conferencing.  This grant does not allow for any administrative or training expenses.  (Note - Carryover funds from TVDEC may be identified as a source of funding in support of administrative expense or training.)

Funded Equipment Request:  ($384,803)
  • Approximately $8,000 per school to purchase video conferencing CODECs. ($350,000)
  • Upgrade MCU at UNK to provide additional video conferencing connections. ($34,803)
In-Kind Contributions:

The RUS application requires that there is a 50% match.  During the application process, schools listed in the application were asked to send a letter indicating that they would be willing to use their $20,000 reimbursement through LB 1208 for such a match.
